THE EXPLORER PROGRAM

The Boy Scouts of America sponsors Explorer Programs in a wide variety of professions, including Fire Fighting, Medical Professions, Chemistry, High Adventure, and Law Enforcement. The Tomball Police Department participates in the Police Explorer program through Public Safety Explorer Post #5451 established in November 2009.

career CAREER

Developing a better understanding of America's social, economic and governmental systems.  Gaining some insight and practical experience in careers.

Installing stable personal value firmly based on religious concepts. Developing skill in dealing with all people and encouraging a sense of family and community responsibility.

service SERVICE

Encourage the skill and desire to help others. Gaining a keen respect for the basic rights of others.

leadership LEADERSHIP

Encouraging a sense of pride in our American Heritage.  Preparing to give leadership and fulfill our responsibility to American society and to the people of the world.

fitness FITNESS

Improving mental and emotional fitness. Enhancing physical fitness and an appreciation for sports.

outdoors OUTDOOR

Developing a degree of self-reliance based on courage, initiative, and resourcefulness. Understanding and appreciating the wise use of resources and the protection of our environment.

THE EXPLORER CODE

As an Explorer ...

  • I believe that America's strength lies in our trust in God and in the courage, strength, and traditions of our people.

  • I will, therefore, be faithful in my religious duties and will maintain a personal sense of honor in my own life.

  • I will treasure my American heritage and will do all I can to preserve and enrich it.

  • I will recognize the dignity and worth of all humanity and will use fair play and goodwill in my daily life.

  • I will acquire the Explorer attitude that seeks truth in all things and adventure on the frontiers of our changing world

HOW DO YOU QUALIFY FOR EXPLORERS?

Both male and female young adults are encouraged to join Explorers. To join you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between the ages of 14 and 21 years of age

  • Have a sincere interest in law enforcement

  • Be enrolled in school and maintain a "C" average

  • Have parental permission if under the age of 17

  • Have no serious police record

  • Be in good health

  • Maintain a neat appearance and manner in compliance with the policies of the Department

  • Pass a thorough background check

  • Complete the Basic Explorer Training Program

AS AN ADULT, HOW CAN I HELP?

Adult leadership is always needed when conducting our Explorer programs. Many times, transportation is needed and adult assistance is necessary.

Assistant Post Advisors are needed, as well as members for the Post Committee, and other consultants for adult leadership.

If you have time to spend with the Explorers, contact one of the Explorer Post Advisors. You will find the rewards more than satisfying if you choose to help.
