Inspections

The Fire Marshal’s Office takes a proactive approach for fire safety by conducting annual fire inspections that address the most common causes of fire. The inspectors are guided by the locally adopted fire code and ordinances which guide them during the inspection process. We utilize International Code Council – International Fire Code (IFC) 2006ed. and NFPA Life Safety 101. A simple checklist is used that outlines the most common fire code issues for which we are looking. The inspection program was designed to educate the business owners with measures they can take to reduce the risk of a fire and make their building safe for their employees, customers and the firefighters.

Business offices, grocery stores, gas stations, hospitals, day cares, doctor offices, department stores, nursing homes, apartment buildings, schools, foster homes, and places of worship are just a few of the types of occupancies that we inspect.

We also perform inspections on all new fire suppression and fire detection systems. We put the systems through acceptance testing in accordance to NFPA guidelines. Testing of systems includes, but not limited to:

  • underground & aboveground fire sprinkler systems

  • fire alarm systems

  • HVAC duct detectors

  • clean agent/dry suppression systems

  • spray and paint booths

  • fixed fire suppression
